My Quilted Parchment Jacket

Parchment Quilted Jacket - The Vibrant Pixel

Sometimes the fabric is chosen way before the project! It was definitely the case for my what I am calling my first Parchment Quilted Jacket. This is the first pattern of Closet Core Crew (if you are wanting to join the fun you can sign up here) and I’m super excited to share my more about my version below.

The hardest and fun part of working at the office is seeing all of the beautiful come in. When this gorgeous deadstock print came to the studio, I just knew I hade to make something out of it. I knew it would be the perfect fabric for my Parchment jacket. I decided to pair this floral with some solids from the Tula Pink Designer Essentials fat quarter bundle I had in my stash. I purchased this bundle from Birdie and Dot Fabrics a little while ago (Pictured Below). I also used the white textured cotton from Core Fabrics.

The “vision” for my first Parchment is neutral with pops of neon. I think I achieve this with my first version but time will tell. When I first got into crafting/sewing I saw the Tiny Tile Quilt by Purl Soho and I just knew it would be the perfect patchwork style for my quilted coat. I loved documenting the process of making my coat. Here a few pictures of my chaotic process of cutting and chain piecing my blocks.

Once I was done piecing the blocks, I then planned out how each pattern would roughly look. As much as possible I tried to not put the same colour near each other. I realized as I was piecing that I didn’t have enough blocks with the colours I need so I made do with what I had. I would have made the sleeve pieces wider all over.

I then moved on to make my quit sandwiches for all my pattern pieces. I had a few options on what colour I wanted my quilting to be. I knew I wanted on the top layer for the thread to be white. I used *Aurifil 28wt 2021. However, I wasn’t too sure on what colour I wanted. Here are a few options I have from *Aurifil. From Left to Right 40 wt 1128, 50wt 2582, 40 wt 2725, 50 wt 1243 & 50 wt 251. I used 1128 for my bobbin thread. Once I was done quilting I followed the pattern instructions using the minimal finishes. I also added two snaps so I can choose to wear it closed.

That is my finished Parchment! I should mention that View B is now drafted a bit shorter than how it is on me. I am already planning a cropped version using English Paper Piecing. I will share more of the process of my second coat as I make it!

*I am an Aurifil Artisan and they kindly sent me the threads used for my project. I also have an affiliate link with them available here for bundles.
